New Year’s Resolution or nah?

New Year’s Resolutions have never really been my thing. I have seen so many people that decide that they want to make a change at some point throughout the year, and for whatever reason they choose to wait until the New Year. While I understand the concept of turning over a new leaf, it truly baffles me to wait on a holiday. If you really want to make a change, today is the best day. But of course, that’s just my opinion. Anyways, instead of New Year’s Resolutions, this year I decided to make some long-term life goals.

I was actually asked by a spiritual mentor of mine to make a list of all of the things that I want out of life. When he first asked me to do this, I was thoroughly confused. He specifically told me, “Don’t write about how you want to be a good wife and mom. Those things are expected. But tell me what you really want out of this life.” It literally took me WEEKS  to come up with anything.

Yesterday, I came across my list again, and I was amazed. There have been two times in my life that I made a New Year’s Resolution. Like so many others, it lasted until about February before I ultimately gave up. But when I came across this list, I realized that over half of the things have happened this year, or will be by the end of it.

long term goals

I wanted to share my list with y’all, but to prevent a jinx, I won’t mention the ones that haven’t come to fruition yet.

  1. Go back to school and get some type of degree

    • By the end of this month, I will have an Associate’s Degree!!!!
  2. Find a good home-based career by the end of the year

    • I have found the BEST work from home opportunity for my family, and it has been such a blessing!
  3. Be financially stable enough to homeschool

    • Thanks to my WFH opportunity, I know without a doubt that homeschooling is going to be long-term for our family!
  4. Spend more time together as a family

    • We now have weekly movie night, and the kids look forward to it all week long!
  5. Journal DAILY

    • My blog has helped me reach this goal, FOR SURE. Especially with this new challenge.
  6. Become a published Author

    • Later this year, my name will be published in a REAL book! Maybe even more than one!

Half of my list of goals have been ACCOMPLISHED and I am not even halfway through the year yet! It is seriously one of the best feelings to check these things off of my list. They may seem silly, or maybe even simple, but they are huge accomplishments to me. The remainder of my goals are much larger, and may take longer than one year to reach. BUT I have made steps to reach every single one, which is more than I could ever say about my silly New Year’s Resolutions.

Don't make another New Year's Resolution to forget; set some goals and REACH THEM

Do you make New Year’s Resolutions? If so, have you kept them this year? Why or why not?
